He is a cancer survivor whose final battle is over and he finally gets to go home to a merciful and loving God. In the polarized climate of American politics, his life was a voice of concern and honesty to those he represented in the US Senate. As a POW in the “Hanoi Hilton”, the torture he endured at the hands of the North Vietnamese left him with permanent disabilities. While anti-war protesters in the US labeled servicemen fighting and dying in Vietnam as “baby burners”, John McCain served his country, as a Navy pilot and later in the US Congress. As a Senate Republican he didn’t just “rubber-stamp” what the other Republicans did. He was a true statesman whose friends sat on both sides of the aisle. Lord, please bring more people like John to represent us in government.
